We set off from the Ondina neighborhood to check out the work “Meninas do Brasil” by local artist Eliana Kertész, who has exhibited in several parts of the country. Eliana Kertész’s “gordinhas” can be seen in full here in Ondina, where the Meninas do Brasil are posing religiously for photos: the three bronze figures symbolize the typical races of Brazil and their due miscegenation.
Next, we will visit Mercado Modelo – one of the oldest and most traditional shopping areas in the city of Salvador, with its architecture listed as a National Historic Heritage Site. There are 263 craft shops. We will stop to see the Monumento de Salvador, by the artist Mário Cravo Jr., an internationally recognized sculptor and the greatest exponent of modern Bahia in the 1940s and 1950s. His sculptures can be seen in many parts of Brazil, especially in Salvador.
